Morris Adjmi Architects (MA) is known for architecture and interior spaces that are contemporary in form, innovative in materials and technology, and inspired by context and history. Based in New York City, MA has a passion for painstakingly searching for the DNA of each building site and has inspired a movement to revitalize buildings and to restore meaning and purpose to historic neighborhoods.
For 55 West 17th Street, MA developed the concept of textures. From the handmade bricks that convey a sense of tactility to the custom windows that have frames flush with the brick, the exterior presents an austere and refined facade. The inside reveals a layer of softer, more luxurious materials and finishes. Cool marble and warm woods create a depth of material for bronze and matte black fixtures. The landscaped courtyard behind the building provides the ultimate natural getaway from the fast-paced city steps away.
Morris Adjmi established MA in 1997 following a successful 10-year partnership with the renowned Italian architect Aldo Rossi. The firm continues to draw upon this rich history while looking toward the future to make buildings that are both modern and timeless.*Toll Brothers received the highest numerical score in United States in the proprietary Lifestory Research 2015 America's Most Trusted™ Home Builder study.
